ScienceWrite mentoring programme
Deadline: 16 January 2023, applicants must be 18+
Application: https://forms.gle/DdTCHcxigZV4jAku8
The ScienceWrite Programme, supported by The Royal Society, aims to help early-stage science writers from minoritised backgrounds to advance their professional development. At ScienceWrite we think of 'science' in the broadest possible terms, including technology, engineering, mathematics, health, climate, sustainability, the history of science and so on.
Successful applicants will attend:
* An in-person training day in London
* Followed by five virtual sessions to be held on Monday evenings
The in-person event will include talks and workshops on how the book publishing industry works, as well as giving insights into the different routes to science journalism. You will also have an opportunity to provide and receive feedback on your own written work and meet your cohort, along with more experienced science writers, editors and agents.
The follow-up virtual sessions will be held from 6.30pm till 9pm and involve two parts: a talk from a prominent science writer with Q&A, and group feedback on up to three of your pieces in the presence of a more experienced science writer.
We want to create a community of writers that can support each other and encourage you to work with your cohort throughout the programme, including outside of the formal sessions.
We welcome applications from folks from minoritised groups, including (but not limited to) people who are:
* BIPOC (Black, Indigenous and People of Colour)
* Disabled
* from Disadvantaged socioeconomic backgrounds
* Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender + (LGBTQIA+)
* from Marginalised genders
* have Mental health challenges
* Neurodiverse
* Any other self-defined minoritisation
We look forward to receiving your application!
